The meaning of the Hermit becomes much clearer and is  easier to distinguish from the High Priestess and the High Priest when compared with his opposite:
VII THE CHARIOT.
The Chariot means the departure into the world, he means extroversion. The Hermit describes the opposite journey, the journey into the inner self. He means introversion.
